How do I stop getting the Oregonian Tuesday ad bag?

Every Tuesday that waste of paper and plastic comes to my mail slot. A stupid Oregonian preview and ads that all goes straight into the recycling. Anyone know where I can call, write, email to stop getting this junk?

The best and only way to stop them for good is to reuse the bag for dog shit, save them up for for six months, then deliver them to the home of the marketing director for the Oregonian.

    I will if you will!

I just emailed the home delivery people at the Oregonian and "dan n" from "circulation" assured me he had taken our name off the list. homedelivery@oregonian.com

I called 503-221-8240 a couple of weeks ago, gave them my address, asked they discontinue the ad bag and it worked. Haven't seen one since.

I took out a juniper in front of my house and found about 20 of the things... I thought they weren't bringing them every week but it turned out most of the time they were just chucked into the bushes. Littering on someone's property like this should be illegal. Interestingly if they were leaving this crap under the windshield wiper of your car you would have recourse as that is illegal in pdx.

I believe those plastic bags are merely mis-delivered. The correct address to drop off the little bag of goodies is in the lobby of 1320 SW Broadway, Portland, OR 97201.
I think if good citizens were to correctly deliver these "goody bags" to the Oregonian lobby they might stop delivering them in the wrong place.
What might we do to educate people to do this?

There is a phone number on it and you call to get off the list. Works. Maybe under "circulation", I don't get it now, otherwise I would be less vague. Now about those land line phone books...

As a former paper boy, I've got to tell you that your chances of refusing this are little and none.
As a delivery person, we are paid to deliver the entire load of those plastic sacks and ads to every address, and if we don't, we don't get paid.

Your only hope is to catch your delivery person as they pass and politely request that they skip you from now on. If you were really clever, you'd offer them a tip if they would skip you. (Make it worth their while to treat your adress as an exception to the rule. It might work!)

Would love to get rid of those darned things; I tried the confrontation but was met in my neighborhood by non-English speakers (or, at least, that's what they claimed) doing the delivery. Oh well.

For DEX it seems easy to stop their drop-offs: http://www.portlandonline.com/mayor/index.cfm?&c=49522

In my neighborhood, those evil white tubes of waste are delivered at Zero in the morning. After exhausting reasonable options, I resorted to guerilla tactics: When I heard that distinctive geo metro stop and go, I'd go outside and hide around the side of my house. When the paper was inevitably thrown on my porch, I ran up, snatched the paper, and ran down my street after the delivery demon, frantically waving the offending rag above my head, all the while yelling "Wait! Wait! You dropped this! Stop!". When I caught up to the confused demon, who had actually stopped out of concern, I handed him that precious roll of irritation, and said "You must stop being so forgetful, one of these dawns I might not be here to return to you what is yours." He attempted to explain that he was supposed to leave the paper with me, but I unfortunately couldn't understand. I did this for three days. There have been no papers in over a year.

These showed up at my old house during the mid-afternoon, when I would usually be at work. One day I was home sick, saw the paper guy dropping the stupid thing at my door, and I ran out after him and told him to stop giving them to us.

It didn't stop. And the next time I was home when he showed up to deliver, I saw that he now just threw them towards my door from the sidewalk, then took off before I could yell at him that he was supposed to have stopped.

At my current house they don't even try for the door - they just leave them in the middle of the lawn. Hey, thanks for that delivery of wet, muddy garbage, Oregonian!

I hate those fucking things. If you find an effective way of making them stop, please share!

My wife has called, I have emailed, and I will call.
We are having the problem of "free" issues littering my property. I personally do not subscribe to any paper as I believe them to be obsolete and a waste of resources.
I have to believe that they could be charged with littering.

Good luck with stopping the ad bag.I called several times with no luck I finally took the paper box off of my mailbox post. This worked for awhile then they started just throwing it in the driveway.I work the night shift and caught up with the guy delivering it on my way home one morning and told him to stop throwing it in my driveway that I don't want the ads.I still get one in the driveway about once every two months.

Honestly, I don't mind the white tube when I see it so lovingly placed on my door step every week. Actually, I kind of look forward to its arrival. I have saved some money clipping the coupons and made many a tasty meals from the recipes.

I tried just letting them pile up for three or four weeks next to "our" phone book, but... they just kept accumulating. So scratch that tactic off the list.

I recently called to have them stop delivery for the third time. It usually last a few months. I also left a message for David Walstrom, the District Manager there. I personally want them to stop delivery to everyone OR to make it an opt-in delivery since opting out is not working. They will never do this by choice, so our best bet is to talk to city counsel or state legislators. I would include the phone book in your complaints.
