After the tragic jackassery that was the down fall of Belmont computers, something decent has sprung up in their place. The Red Star Machine Works is by far the best computer repair shop I've ever been to. They're nice, helpful, they're not the total tech-shites that Belmont Computers sadly became, and they're affordable. Do I sound like a tiresome fan-boy? Yes I do. Don't care. Last time I took my computer in, it turned out that the problem was something really simple. Took maybe fifteen minuets to fix. Instead of calling it a day and charging me the hour of labor for fifteen minuets work, they looked over my computer, diagnosed some other problems and called to see if I wanted them do fix those things too. Not just once, but twice. They've even helped me diagnose problems over the phone for free. They rock.

What? Disgust of Happy Hamster due to not understanding "minimum charge"?

I've had great luck with Happy Hamster. I was given a diagnosis of something I'd stupidly overlooked (dust obstructing the airflow in a laptop) and the option to take care of it myself or have them fix it. I've also been given tips by phone at no charge regarding t-shooting. They've been very generous with their time.

Man. I had a completely dissimilar experience at Happy Hamster. I went in there because I thought my power supply was dead, but wanted to make sure my mobo was also not dead....

They charge something like 60 bucks an hour and they charged me 30 for about 7 minutes worth of diagnostics that left me right back where I started. I'm sure they're good guys, and all.... But I would NEVER refer anyone to them. Unless I hated them.

    So... Don't go Happy Hamster.

Happy Hamster on MLK. They have a flat rate per hour and a discount for students. Plus is they find nothing too wrong you don't have to pay.
